Beauty is such a fickle thing. As an American woman, I am bombarded by what others find beautiful. Then I'm usually told that I need to have that version of beauty, and that I can achieve it through whatever makeup/clothing/diet book is hot right now.
No, thanks. I'm good. I know where my beauty lies. So does Talia Castellano. This lovely 13-year-old waif will capture your heart and teach you a thing or two about beauty.
Talia's makeup tutorials/vlogs are an Internet sensation. You can learn everything from the value of BB creams to mascara tricks to how to get dramatic smoky eyes from this tiny powerhouse of makeup knowledge.
Oh, and she's got cancer.
Talia is living with two cancers: neuroblastoma and leukemia. Her latest update reveals no neuroblastoma or leukemia cells in her bone marrow. Her faithful viewers and those around her will remain cautiously optimistic.
What can we learn from Talia?
Talia recently attended the I Heart Radio festival in Las Vegas (courtesy of Ellen DeGeneres) and then made an appearance on Ellen's show where CoverGirl gave her a professional makeup table and $20,000 and made her an honorary CoverGirl.
All of this awesomeness landed her in the hospital twice with neutropenia, but her bubbly self took it all in stride. She runs headlong into her life -- cancer be damned.
Keats once wrote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever; its lovliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness." And I believe Talia is the epitome of this statement.
In honor of all the cancer beauties in our lives, be like Talia. Embrace your beauty. Pursue your passion, no matter what. And seize every opportunity.
